Community leader, nonprofit executive, and former public school teacher Holly Seibold has earned the support of educators, receiving the recommendation of the Virginia Education Association Fund for Children and Public Education in the special election being held January 10 to fill an empty seat in House District 35.
“Having Holly in the Virginia General Assembly, with her experience as a public school educator, will be invaluable to Virginia students, teachers, and families,” said Dr. James J. Fedderman, VEA president and chair of the VEA Fund. “For too long, people who have rarely set foot in a classroom have been making critical policy decisions about student learning conditions and educator working conditions, which are really the same thing. It’s time we had leaders who really understand the needs of our schools.”
Seibold currently serves as the founder and executive director of the nonprofit organization BRAWS: Bringing Resources to Aid Women’s Shelters.
Early voting is underway in this special election, being held to fill the seat vacated when Delegate Mark Keam resigned in September to take a position with the U.S. Department of Commerce.
Virginia is a top 10 state in median household income, but ranks 36th in the US in state per pupil funding of K-12 education.
